(not Washington, the other one)

Warning: the following is pure doggerel.
      Best when diluted with reason
and a bucket of salt for season

Let’s now praise George Bush, son not pa
Less bound for Rushmore than Rush Limbaugh
He turns our surpluses to deficits
Mixes his pronouns up with predicates
Instead of truth is all lip, “I” wash and bushwah

Thanks to the Court, Nader and baby brother
We’re held heir to one mess atop another
Once the sanctimonious lapel pin patriots
And faux christians sold the country for trinkets
We’re left to Ralph at one nadir after another

The less he knows the more sure he is of it
The more wrong he is the more he holds to it
Our nation’s semi-legit presidency
Takes more pride in intellectual illiteracy
Than ever seen before by those in charge of us

To him the best book is the one left unread
As we all groan and slap our foreheads
He don’t trust in no ex-purts or science
In neo-con cronies he puts his reliance
Never near good, he’s really quite horrid

He’s all prank, posture and ego gratification
Of far more harm than good to the nation
But since like all small minded politicians
Even molehills may loom like mountains
When the going gets tough he goes on vacation

While blue skies mean black and cuts in our taxes
Go into rich pockets, tighter regs really mean laxer
So in the bizarre world he leisurely inhabits
All he vociferously denies is and says is isn’t
How convenient to have ethics so unexact-ing

A spendthrift we say – oh no, you wouldn’t
A warmonger we cry – oh no, you didn’t
(he takes our liberties, literally(!)
though our laws tell him he shouldn’t)
So little known for either effort or brains
Even if he were Grand President of Trains
He’d still be the little engine that couldn’t

From Abu Gehraib and bin Laden who he let go
It’s been Katerina-like excesses from the get go
The pres and his v.p. are sadists we fear
Read their lips, as they smirk, grin and sneer
Then torture us worse than inmates at Gitmo

The brain trust of Bush, Rumsfeld and Cheney
Run foreign policy with rare tact and subtlety
They invaded Iraq with a vaudevillian plan
So zany they’d take it on the road to Iran
With skill not seen since Moe, Larry and Curley

They subsidize the very air with pollution
Then deny global warming has any solution
Though they might have been giants
They decided they’d rather be tyrants
Wasting half their time undoing the Constitution
(and the other half trying to deny it)

Gorge-us George’s absence has been egregious
As Wall Street and Big Oil ream and gouge us
But all his malfeasances can’t be fixed
Without running the nation into a ditch
He claims from the hole in which he’s plunged us

Now the domestic economy too, is in ruins
We scream, hey Dry Hole, what’re you doin’
As the dollar falls into global depression
And prices rise to recession, here’s the lesson
If work needs done don’t send a dumb Texan

He says history won’t judge him a loser
Incompetent and civil liberties abuser
But the Dam that stops relief from our troubles
The Vacuum that sucks all hopes into his bubble
Looks much less a Lincoln (not even a Ford)
    than a Hoover

Congress and the Republican Party bore us
Like a shrieking off-key Greek chorus
They say they aren’t lapdog rubber stamps
Tools for lobbyists or corporatized vamps
But the ink stains on their foreheads betray them/us

Hey, hey George Bush the lesser, son
Why do you hafta always play the simpleton
If you’d done half of what you’re supposed to
And not done half of what you have done
You wouldn’t have polls lower than Nixon’s

More is less and less is more we all know
But he is more and less the worst we’ve known
To all the lives their errors have cost us
Ethics, prestige and opportunities lost us
The pres says, “Who me?” The veep grunts “so?”

The Great Decider might have made us united
But thought he was better served by us divided
So when the world now says, “ah, go suck it”
And in Nantucket use words even more pungent
He proves no wiser or humbler than when he arrived

But this is an ode about what is still owed us
By those who voted for him (twice) and chose this
An acknowledgement might be a just start
That the whole of US is more than a few parts
Once before this mendacious presidency closes
